Hana Bank 2020 World Team Table Tennis Championships Postponed Again
Hana Bank 2020 World Team Table Tennis Championships (WTTC), which was postponed to be hosted in June 2020, is to be postponed again.
The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) announced after the Executive Committee Meeting on 29 March 2020 to suspend holding all their international events scheduled until June 2020 due to COVID-19. The ITTF added that the new dates for the WTTC will be confirmed after closely following up the status of the epidemic.
The Co-President of the Organizing Committee Mr. Ryu Seung-min noted on 30 March 2020 that “the ITTF has affirmed that the Championships is not going to be canceled though the it is being postponed to secure the safety of the athletes and team officials as well as the table tennis fans.”
As the Championships is postponed again, the Organizing Committee has decided to downsize the organization with only few key staffs from Korea Table Tennis Association and Busan city. International sport experts with expired contracts will be recruited again after the dates for the WTTC is confirmed.
The 2020 WTTC was originally planned to be hosted from 22-29 March 2020 at BEXTO, Busan, however, it was postponed due to the outbreak of COVID-19 with the dates of 21-28 June 2020.
